11/25/14 LAST ENEMY

11/25/14 LAST ENEMY

It is ok to hate death (just as it is ok to hate sin and Satan), since death is our enemy, our last enemy. But we must not allow our legitimate indignation for these three thieves to harden us or embitter us toward people or life or God.

Death spreads its sorrow, but Christians have victory over death, and our victory lasts for eternity, while our sorrow only lasts for a fleeting moment. Death between believers is not, "good bye," it is, "see you later."

I am not being cavalier, because I also hate death and the sorrow it spreads when it comes to those we love. The more deeply we love, the more deeply we hurt when we are separated from a loved one. But now abides faith, hope and love, because Jesus will never leave us nor forsake us. We must anchor our hope in Jesus because He will hold us steady through the storms of life and the torrents of death.

(I wrote this today as I thought a friend, who is suffering the sorrow of an impending farewell. I love you. Keep looking unto Jesus.)
