10/17/14 SURPRISED BY THE ANSWER

10/17/14 SURPRISED BY THE ANSWER

After talking about several other shared interests (sports, travel, Texas), I was asked where I had been a pastor. Then I asked him where he goes to church. I was really surprised by the answer, though it was the standard answer I hear. Still it was strange, because of who said it. He responded that he did not actually go to church, because of work and needing time to relax and the demands of family activities.

I hear this all the time, and usually respond with something like, "Well, you will find time when death comes to your family, or, terrible sickness will change your busy schedule." But I did not say this, because the person I was talking to was only 11 years old.

He was telling me he does not go because his dad works hard and needs the day off and His mom is busy all week long. He was parroting his parents. How sad. He did say that sometimes he has gone with his grandmother to church and Bible studies.

I told him that he needs to find a church that preaches Jesus and the Bible. He told me that his grandmother's church does.

How sad that parents are training their child to schedule Christ out of his life.
