01/13/14 NO ANIMAL SOULS
My little buddy Timothy (5 yrs.) had to deal with the death of his new Guppy today. He said God could make it live again. I reminded him that animals are just bodies without spirits, so they don't live forever.
I then reviewed the fact that God intended for us to never die, but Adam's sin brought death to all earthly creation. Timothy was not happy with Adam.
Timothy loves the story of the cross. I pointed out that Jesus died to take away our sin and death; that He will give us a new body after we die, or we will not die, but get caught up to heaven and be given our new body. He likes that part.
Now that he is older, a lot of things probably fit better in his mind as he deals with the death of his fish.
I said we need to trust and follow Jesus, so we will be ready.
Someone stated that they (along with the Pope) believe animals have souls and I responded.
The Pope you say; that ought to give you pause for thought. Anyway, it depends on your use of "soul." If you mean, having animal, mental capability, yes. However, if you are referring to eternal spirits, NO. The Pope may agree with you and the Buddhist may agree with you, but it is not a Christian belief. Only mankind was made in the image of God and will live eternally. Christ only died for men, not figs and frogs. I am a trichotomist, but however you look at it, animals do not have eternal souls.
