11/16/14 The Rule Of Love

11/16/14 The Rule Of Love

I like to play games of various kinds (sports, word, memory).
Games have rules; if you don't play by the rules, you lose the game.
The workplace has rules; if you don't follow the rules, you lose your job.
Society has rules; if you don't keep the rules, you suffer judgment.
Life has rules (God's rules); if you don't obey His rules, you suffer and die (Ro. 6:23; Ja. 1:15).

God's rules are actually reduced to one rule, which is, "love from a pure heart" (Ga. 5:14; 1 Tm. 1:5).
Love is the fulfilling of the law of God (Mt. 22:36-40; Ro. 13:8-10).
This kind of love is not inherent to sinful man (1 Jn. 4:12).
It is the gift of God, which is available to those who follow Christ by faith (Ro. 5:5; 2 Co. 7:1; 1 Jn 2:5).
God offers it (Mt. 5:48).
God enables us to receive it (1 Jn. 4:17-18).
God requires us to continue in it (1 Tm. 4:8; 2 Tm. 2:5; Jd. 1:21).
To choose to live without this perfect love is to disqualify ourselves from a saving relationship with God (1 Co. 9:24; Ja. 1:12; 1 Jn. 3:10-11, 14-15; 1 Jn. 4:7-8).
