10/23/14 GOOD QUESTIONS
Sorry you missed it. (this will be of interest to a very few people)
During Bible study last night the questions from the children were better than you would get from most adult classes and worthy of questions you might hear in a college class concerning Biblical concepts. The questions were impromptu, and directly related to the lesson I was giving. The questions were almost constant, and they were asked by several, if not all of the children (6 children, ages 6 to 11). The questions were thoughtful and important.
The lesson started with the importance of formal translations and usefulness of informal translations, since the children use a variety of translations personally. We discussed the languages of the Bible (Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek), with a focus on the New Testament. I reviewed the impact of Alexander the Great on western language and government. I used the English language to illustrate the importance of a global language. I reviewed the impact of Roman rule, which built and secured highways, established and preserved peace. I pointed out that these things prepared the way for the coming of Jesus. (much more).
One of their questions had to do with the language that will be spoken during the Millennium. This led to discussion about the Resurrection (righteous and unrighteous), the Rapture, the Return, the thousand year Rule (including the Restraining and Releasing of Satan), and the eternal Reign of Christ (in the New Heaven, the New Earth and the New Jerusalem). (this led to several other questions and answers).
The nature and needs of the whole man (inner man and outer man) were addressed. As I explained the difference between the inner man and the outer man, the six year old said, "Oh, I get it now." Then he asked about the two other men... I asked (with trepidation), "What two other men?" He said, "the Old man and the New Man." After some explaining he said he got that too. (again, much more was discussed).
Anyway, as you can see, it was a lot of Bible and a lot of discussion. Although their questions address the lesson I am presenting, the questions are laden with info from other Bible truths they have learned. The session, though child oriented, was not childish. It was both deep and wide. Whew, what a time.
Another one of the questions was, if the outer man dies because he does not eat, does the inner man die also? I then pointed out that the outer man is a physical being, in need of physical sustenance, but the inner man is a spiritual being, in need of spiritual sustenance. I asked them what would be the spiritual food, drink and air that the spiritual man would need. They responded with Jesus and the Holy Spirit for Bread and Water. I mentioned that the Holy Spirit is also the Breath of God. This led to the fact that Jesus promised a well of water springing up and river of water flowing through us. This of course has to do with the Holy Spirit in the regenerate and also in the entirely sanctified. Smart young-uns.
Possibly Hebrew since that was the language of the Old Testament and the native language for Jesus and the capitol will be in Jerusalem. Also referred to Day of Pentecost, when God enabled glossolalia, speaking languages without studying them. Or, God could restore a single language, the reverse of Babel. But, just guessing.
