09/27/14 (there is a good reason for the questions at the beginning of this post)

09/27/14 (there is a good reason for the questions at the beginning of this post)

If your boat was sinking, and you could choose one other thing to be saved, would it by your child or your purse? your child or your jewels? your child or your computer? your child or your luggage? your child or your dirty towels? your child or your dirty laundry?

Your child, of course. Then why do people cling to things in this life that are detrimental to the health, well being and eternal destiny of their children, such as attitudes, activities and associations? Children are impressionable, tender and vulnerable. They are in their formative years. What mom and dad do, what mom and dad say is bending the life of that child into the person he/she will become. Their minds, their emotions, their affections, their fears, their worldview is being formed, and largely impacted by the way mom and dad behave themselves, by the way mom and dad relate.

No wonder Jesus said it would be better to have a millstone tied around our necks and cast into the sea than to offend a little one. We only get one chance. They will make up their own mind, but we will either make it easier for them to trust Christ or we will put a stumbling stone in their way.
