For years I have said that the most common expressions of sin are
ANGER (unsanctified indignation) and
LUST (unbridled desire), along with
PRIDE (exaggerated self esteem) and
JEALOUSY (misdirected zeal or desire).
These are seen in the sins of the first family (Adam, Eve, Cain).
ANGER KILLS. LUST KILLS. PRIDE KILLS. JEALOUSY KILLS.
Everyone has sinned, but these sins are common to most people. However, there are some people who are defined or caricatured by these specific sins. While we may refer to a person, saying, "He/she has a lot of anger," it is more accurate to say, "Anger has him/her." The same is true for Lust, Pride and Jealousy. Some people try to control these volatile sins. However, while these sins are allowed to remain, though under some semblance of control, they get stronger and stronger until the person has no control. When allowed to remain in our lives, they gain a greater grip and wider reach, until they will reign unrestrained.
This is why it is important to allow Christ to deliver and cleanse us from the corruption associated with these demonic vices. It is difficult to renounce these sins when we are young, but they will become impossible to escape over a period of time. This is not because God is incapable of delivering us, but because we become more submissive to the masters that we choose to rule over us. There is an urgency in salvation.
God's Spirit will not strive with man always, we must seek the Lord while He may be found, today is the day of salvation.
We not only need to ask forgiveness for our sins, we need to turn, abandon our sins (words, thoughts and deeds), and our sin (nature). We cannot "improve ourselves" out of sin, we must be rescued, delivered, SAVED from our sin.
Our sin not only separates us from God, it destroys our lives and takes an eternal toll on those we love.
Do not delay,
Trust Christ today.
