08/24/14 GOING TO THE ALTAR...

08/24/14 GOING TO THE ALTAR...

During service today, I was pointing out the spiritual and Christian shallowness of our present society. I mentioned an occasion recently when one of my Pball friends made a crude remark, and I said (for the benefit of the speaker and for all those who heard it), "Somebody needs to go to the altar." After I said it, I realized (and openly said), they probably do not even know what it means, "to go to the altar." Another Pball friend, standing nearby, said, with certain assurance, "Oh, I am sure they do." I agreed that some probably do, but then I told her why I think that most of them do not.

I looked around at the group and saw several people who don't even attend church, some who attend liberal churches, and some who attend traditional/orthodox churches, but not evangelical churches. I also considered the diminishing numbers of churches that encourage the unsaved to make first time commitments, the backsliders to make re-commitments, and the carnal/shallow Christian to make deeper commitments. I realized that many of them would not know what to do at an altar, and felt sad that the message of salvation has become rare, and even despised in our society at this time.

Even among "evangelicals" there are false teachings that ridicule a call to salvation or a call to re-commitments, or a call to full surrender.

Admittedly, there are some people who will make commitments when they are invited, but then they forget their commitments and fall away. This hardens their own hearts and it places a stumbling block before others, whom God is calling.

What we need is old fashioned conviction and convincement that leads to unshakable faith and uncompromising commitments. We need more, "Old Fashioned," salvation and transformations.

How about it? Are you right with Jesus? Are you ready to face God in eternity. Are you equipped to live a life of victory in a world of opposition.

The life of faith begins with an act of faith, and continues in a walk of faith.
