03/12/14 GOD CANNOT DO SOME THINGS

03/12/14 GOD CANNOT DO SOME THINGS

The other day, a couple of my grandchildren asked, "If God can do anything, can He make Himself into (a small animal of some kind)."

I said, "No, because it is against God's nature to do that, and God cannot do anything against His nature."

They asked what that meant. I responded by asking them if they could become that same kind of animal. They said, "No." I agreed, and pointed out that they are human beings and it is against our nature to be another creature. In the same way, although God has all power, He cannot do anything that is against His nature.

Remember, God cannot lie (Ti. 1:2; He.6:18); God cannot be tempted with evil, neither does He tempt any man (Ja. 1:13), because these things are contrary to His nature. Since these things are contrary to God's nature, He would never want to do them. Omnipotence does not require Divine contradiction.
