02/07/14 GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENTS FROM SMALL GROUPS

Great amounts of weight can be moved by an individual, if he uses a lever or a block and tackle. Great amounts of work can be accomplished by small numbers of people (small churches), when they join their energies, talents, commitments as a unified system.

Neither small nor large churches can accomplish much when the individuals do not pool their abilities as a single body, with a single purpose. Pieces of a great machine do not accomplish the task for which they were designed and tooled, if they lay disconnected from one another, or if they are employed in other tasks, such as paper weights or door stops.

Usually, in large churches, there is only a small number of people who have the vision and commitment to work together. Think of what great things could be done by churches comprised primarily of workers instead of spectators. While it does not take a large church to accomplish great things, it takes most of the people in a small church to accomplish great things.

In a modern world, especially one that demands and distracts the focus and commitment of everyone, there are very few churches that accomplish much anymore. This is because God gets the "leav'ns" (the leftovers) instead of the first and best. The principle of the tithe demonstrates the importance of giving God the first and best of what we have.
