Hiding the sinful nature is like the man who bought "The Black Dragon Tavern," then painted the new name, "The White Dove Inn," over the old sign. With the passing of time and the abuse of weather, the new name wore away and the old name reappeared.
My observation has been that the cheaper the paint and the sorrier the workmanship, the quicker the "Black Dragon" resurfaces. Also, the more comfortable a person feels with the old life, the less wear and tear it takes for the "old man" to show itself.
The Bible tells us to crucify the old man, rather than try to control it; to put off the old man, rather than just cover it up. The real issue is not just cosmetic, but cleansing; not just appearance, but attitude.
