10/30/14 Good Service Tonight
We sang several requested songs, including, "Joy To The World." The eleven year old wanted to know the meaning of the line, "Far As The Curse Is Found."
I reminded them of God's promise at the time of Adam's sin, to send His Son to save us from sin's curse. I then pointed out three parts of the curse, and God's salvation through Christ.
Sickness, Sin and Separation from God.
1. Sickness
Sickness can be,
A. Self imposed (self abuse, addiction),
B. The result of personal, genetic weakness, or
C. The result of contagion (either bacterial or viral).
We talked about the devastation brought about by these three. I explained that God delivers people through medical means and through miraculous intervention. We talked about occasions of direct healing in our own church family, and pointed out that all healing is part of the "blessing of God." God also provides good health as a blessing, for which we should give thanks. However, healing and health are only temporary in this world, but ultimate and final health comes to God's children.
We do not need to fear sickness.
2. Sin
Sin plagues our world. Wicked people do terrible things to others, such as abuse, violence, neglect. But God's goodness and grace prevents, protects and delivers us from unrestrained evil.
I pointed out how children suffer because of wicked parents, but God provides Christian parents. This is victory over the curse too.
We do not need to fear sin.
3. Separation From God Forever. Death (through violence and disease) comes to every home and does not care about age. We will all suffer loss through death, unless Jesus comes back soon. Even death (the last enemy) will be done away with through Christ.
We do not need to fear death.
Praise Him and Love Him
For all of these blessings we should give praise and thanksgiving to God. This should be done in private times as well as in church. We should develop a deep and powerful relationship with God.
Hallucinations...
Someone asked about hallucinations. I pointed out that people see things because of drugs, imagination, physical maladies and demonic activity. We need to trust God whenever we see or experience strange events.
We do not fear Satan's attacks.
