10/13/14 DOWN LEADS TO DOWN
The longer a person lives in resistance to the Holy Spirit the more resistant he becomes to the Holy Spirit, until the Holy Spirit will not strive with him any longer.
He will become his own god.
He will not take counsel or reproof or correction or instruction in righteousness.
He will be unable to forgive others.
He will sin more boldly and more cruelly.
He will not care who he hurts or how viciously he hurts them.
Sin is a thorough and an eternal tyrant.
Ephesians 4:30-32
30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
2 Timothy 2:19
19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
CONSIDER...
All sin separates from God; unrepented sin separates from God forever.
The closest the Bible comes to the phrase, "come to my senses" is when Luke said the prodigal son "came to himself." A person comes to God, because God calls him and enables him to come. God would not call someone, without wanting him to come or without enabling him to come, but the fact is, some people use their free will to resist the Holy Spirit and this is why, "many are called, but few are chosen." It is possible to resist the call and the will of God.
Jesus would have gathered the Jews to Himself, but they chose to resist Him.
Matthew 23:37
(37) O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not
Stephen compared the Jews of his day with ancient Israel, which chose to resist the Holy Spirit.
Acts 7:51
(51) Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.
God said, in the days of Noah, that His Spirit would not strive with men always. In other words, God does call, even strive (contend) with men, but not endlessly. There comes a time when the rebellious man is cut off, even though he has been invited to salvation.
Proverbs 29:1
(1) He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
