I don't understand it. I poured 5 pounds of sugar, mixed with 2 quarts of honey, along with 7 ears of corn, ground into a mash, into the fuel tank of my car, and then ran a 220 electric cord from the house to the distributor, and my car still doesn't run right. Sugar and honey are sources of energy, right? They do use corn as a fuel for cars, don't they? And what was with the sparks and explosion when I connected the power source to my car?
Maybe you think this is silly. Well, I listen to people when they complain about life not working, yet they are as confused about spiritual and relational matters as the person portrayed in the metaphor above. Instead of going to the operators manual (the Bible), people mix and match various world views together, expecting the laws of the universe to adapt to their confusion.
Sometimes their homemade brew seems to work for a while, but eventually the intricacies of human existence will demand more than failed substitutes can provide. Often the people who are trying to piece life together, aside from God's revelation, go from one level of failure to another. But, instead of listening to the person who teaches the word of God, they scoff at them.
I watch as people flop around life, like a beheaded chicken, with no understanding, no knowledge, no vision, no plan, not grasp of reality. Sadly, there is more chance that the headless chicken will heed my counsel before those who have rejected Christ as the head of their lives.
