06/21/14 SEPARATE BUT RELATED IDEAS

06/21/14 SEPARATE BUT RELATED IDEAS

If we are not motivated to do the right thing from desire, we should at least do the right thing from duty.

Sometimes our head travels express, but our heart travels slow freight. It is better when they are traveling the same direction on the same track.

Faith synchronizes our head and heart, our duty and desire, God's law and God's grace.

Following the moral law of God does not save our soul but it can save us, and other people we encounter, from unnecessary loss and suffering, and hopefully bring us to a life of faith and grace (Ga. 3:19-26).

Galatians 3:21-26
21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

Addendum...
This is why we teach children to "do the right thing." Not because it will save their souls, but because it will save them from unnecessary self affliction, and prepare them for faith in Christ.
