There are people who would say I had it made as a child/young person. And, I agree. But the greatest contributor to my joyful life was the goodness of God. I knew it then, and I understand it even more clearly now.
BUT, one of the most important components in my life that really made a difference was the fact that I was taught, I accepted and I lived in a spirit of submission to proper authority. That attitude of surrender to God and parents and other qualified leaders protected me from an onslaught of internal and external battles that would have devastated me, and the servants attitude has followed me into adulthood, where it has continued to serve me well.
I was not and I am not a Mr. Milquetoast. In fact, I have a very strong will and Lone Ranger mentality. However, submission to proper authority is not the sheepish response of a cowering wall flower. It is the divinely ordained response of a person who recognizes that all authority is of God.
The sooner people learn this, the sooner they find God's peace, and their place, in this life. The longer it takes to become a willing and joyful servant and follower of proper leadership, the more negativity they will have to wrestle with as an adult.
I encourage young people, and adults as well, to yield to the legitimate authorities in their lives, not out of fear or desperation or peer pressure, but because it is the eternal and universal rule of God. True strength, courage, leadership, is the other side of good follow-ship.
