If you see (or think you see) a ministry need in your church, and you have the God given skills, gifts, talents and opportunity to meet that need, do you ignore the need, or do you wait to be asked to minister to that need, or do you offer yourself in service to meet that need?
How much more can be accomplished when the body works in unity and harmony. Remember, God did not bless you so that you could serve yourself, He blessed you so that you would serve others. The needs are many and they are varied, as are the individual members of a local church, with their many different abilities. We all have our own jobs, but they are for the reaching of the lost and building up of Christians, with the result of glorifying God. Breaking, tilling, planting, tending, harvesting; if we do our jobs God will give the harvest.
And don't forget, service to the children is service to God. In fact, God tells us specifically to minister to the children (Mk. 9:36-37) and to the needy (Mt. 25:40), and to the brethren (Ga. 6:8-10), and to those who minister in the word (1 Tm. 5:17-18).
Now, find a need and let God help you fill it.
CONSIDER THIS...
When God was calling Moses, He asked him what he had in his hand. God was going to use the capabilities that Moses had. This is true throughout the Bible and even history.
WHAT ABOUT YOU?
Today, when God ask's people what they have in their hands, they may respond by saying: "A full schedule," or, "Tickets to the game," or, "An important meeting," or, "Much needed R and R," or, "Pressing obligations." SO WHAT ELSE IS NEW. We all have the same things.
However, the right answer to God is, "Lord, what would You have me to do," or "Speak Lord, for Thy servant is listening."
Remember, our times are in His hands, He is Lord of time and eternity, we should redeem the time we have because the days are filled with evil.
Stop and think about this... How much time during the week do I spend ministering to specific needs that God wants my church to perform? And by the way, God is not looking for those who serve simply out of obligation, but out of a heart of love, thanksgiving and humility. As a pastor, I am not looking for anyone who feels like he/she is doing God a favor or is paying off a debt to God. I am looking for people who are giving themselves because He gave Himself; people who love because He first loved them.
Romans 13:11-12
(11) And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
(12) The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
1 Corinthians 15:58
(58) Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
