Just a thought I had this morning...
The reason people think that the way of salvation (which spans the chasm of time, from here to eternity), is too narrow, is because they are too big for their bridges.
They think too highly of self and too lowly of God.
They are so broad minded that they cannot accept Christ and His word as the only truth to follow.
They are educated beyond their intelligence, ever learning, but never coming to the knowledge of the truth.
They are puffed up with emptiness rather than filled up with truth.
They think more highly of themselves than they ought to think, and they demean those who are humbly following Jesus.
They confuse humility, meekness, self denial, love with weakness.
This is why we must humble ourselves.
NO WONDER...
Have you ever noticed that people who do not humble themselves and who refuse to live under the rule of God, but they still try to live by Biblical standards, are not joyful but they are judgmental? That is because they are trying to fit their gigantic ego on the tight rope of salvation.
ON THE OTHER HAND...
The person who humbles himself, who narrows himself down to God's will and way, who decreases so that God increases, is not cramped in his life or crabby with other people. That is because the narrow way is plenty wide for the self denying person. The humble have a wide entrance.
GOD SAYS...
2 Peter 1:2-11 (verses 2-10 make verse 11 possible).
(2) Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
(3) According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
(4) Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
(5) And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
(6) And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
(7) And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
(8) For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
(9) But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
(10) Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
(11) For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
