01/22/14 BRING UP A CHILD...

01/22/14 BRING UP A CHILD...

I work hard to help my people put the puzzle of their lives together. This begins with little children and continues through all of the seasons of life. I don't see my life story as the model, but I am not hesitant to share God's gracious and merciful work in my life. This allows me to direct children and young people (and adults) toward the blessing of following Christ and steer them away from the pitfalls of being self centered. I get to be a mentor, a guide, an enabler, an encourager and counselor.

I came to Christ at the age of three without the advantage of Christian parents or a Bible believing church or saved family or friends. In fact, I met very few saved young people until I went to Bible college, and there were only a handful of saved adults that I ever knew before I was 18 years of age. Bible believing Christianity was as scarce as hen's teeth, even in those days. Therefore I know what it takes for young people to live victoriously, especially with the support of a loving, Bible believing church.

I also know how important it is for parents to be saved, to follow Christ, to teach their children the word and the way of God, both by precept and by example.

The Lord willing, tonight, I will address the importance of godly parents in the lives of young children.

(DGL response to question)

In response to your question, hens have no teeth, therefore to be as "scarce as hens teeth" is to be exceedingly rare. Even when I was a young person, it was exceedingly rare to meet born again people. I knew lots of church people, but very few saved people.

This seems strange until you realize there were very few preachers actually preaching the Bible. It was a time of rampant spiritual and religious "liberalism."

People who were part of the believing community and isolated from the real world, would disagree with my analysis. As hard as it may be for some people to understand in this day of anti-Christian, Post-Christian world view, in some places and in some ways, it is easier to find saved people today than it was in the 1950's to 1980's.

Now, this does not mean that our society is more Christian in its worldview or that our nation is more Christian in its morals or religion. And, I am not saying that there is a greater percentage of our society that is saved. However, the gospel and salvation was presented more vigorously in the later part of the last century than it had been during the early and middle part of the 1900's.
